I answered an ad one day in the paper that read… “Investigator Wanted” It intrigued me. I went to the interview and hit it off well with the owner of the company. A short time after that I got my license and was hired. I was now a private investigator. The job seemed like it would be a challenge and also a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun. I had a concealed weapons permit and a badge! I learned a lot. I met some great people. I created some great friendships and business connections. After several years in the trenches, I realized I had worked just about every kind of case there was and also that I was pretty darn good at the job. Now it was about this time that I ordered a money making course off television. It was only $39.95 and I figured if I got only a couple marketing ideas out of it, it would certainly be worth it.

I had been placing ads in my off time for some informational products I created. They weren’t making me a lot of money but the thing that got my attention was that the orders were pretty consistent. And despite the fact that when I subtracted my expenses, I only made $10. to $15. profit per order, the number of orders I was getting started to add up. There were even weeks that I made more from my orders than I did in my weekly paycheck as a private investigator!

I was really starting to get hooked on marketing online and also placing ads in newspapers. And I managed to get pretty good at it.

I wrote to the author to let him know how much I enjoyed the course I purchased. It just so happened they were about to shoot an updated national infomercial and asked if I would be interested in appearing in it as one of their success stories.

I had come a long way since I first started dabbling with a few ads in newspapers here and there. And I was really excited to be asked and to appear in front of a national audience where I would be recognized for my efforts. So I agreed to appear on the TV show. It was a great experience for me.

I was treated like royalty. They flew me out to California and put me up in a fancy hotel. I got to see where Anthony Robbins lived at the time, because we filmed the infomercial in the back yard of a twelve million dollar mansion that sat right on the ocean. It was right next door to Tony’s house!

The whole experience did something to me inside. It caused me to really think about what I wanted out of life. It caused me to really focus on my dreams and more than anything else, it showed me up close and personal what was possible if I wanted it badly enough. And believe me I did! I came back from the infomercial shoot a new man. I was a changed man. I was more determined than ever to figure out how to go from making a small profit selling an informational product to making much more. I knew there was a way because I saw others doing it with my own eyes. I sat beside them. I talked with them. I saw the success they enjoyed. And I wanted a taste for myself. And I was forever changed and ready to take real action.

On the way back, Don Lapre flew me to his office to see how his call center worked. I walked in to a room with 400 people sitting in it shoulder to shoulder. They were wearing headsets and sitting in front of computer screens reading scripts to people. And Don was making millions! It was a well oiled marketing power house!

The more I toured the offices and saw firsthand how Don was running his operation, the more I realized that what I was seeing wasn’t anything more than just a simple strategy rolled out on a national level and reaching a massive audience of hungry buyers. It was a great experience. And I learned something valuable that day.

When I got back home I was all fired up and ready to make my move up to something bigger. I didn’t know what it was exactly but I knew I was determined to find it. I knew I needed something that paid me serious money.

Nothing had changed back home. I was still in over my head in debt. I was drowning and I needed a lifeline in the worst way. All I was doing was incurring more and more interest on accumulated debt and getting further and further behind. I simply needed to make more money and I needed to do it as fast as I could to get ahead.

The telephone call that changed my life…

I was sitting in my apartment one night with calculator in hand, trying to figure out how to make very little money stretch far enough to buy some gas and food after paying some really pressing bills that had just come in.

I was frustrated and a bit pissed off to be totally honest with you. I was upset because I knew there were plenty of people who weren’t any smarter than me making tons of money every week from the Internet.

The problem was I didn’t know how to get to anyone that would show me what to do. This is part of the problem that everyone who is looking for a real opportunity faces.

Unfortunately there are many more people who are looking than there are actual success stories to properly mentor them along to success. It can be really tough knowing who to listen to and who to trust. And for me as a private investigator, my radar was always on. I really was the king of the skeptics back then. I didn’t trust anyone or anything. I saw too much bad stuff and I was pretty bitter because I was struggling so hard to survive.

The phone rang and the voice on the other end was Jim. Jim somehow got my name and number from a business opportunity seeker list. And I was next on his list! He called me up and started reading his canned script to me. I didn’t have any interest in hearing his script because I had already heard something very similar many times before. After a while they all tend to sound pretty much the same. And Jim sounded like most of the others who had called. He sounded like a robot reading insincere words off a page hoping to talk me in to sending him money! I was just about to hang up when Jim suddenly said something that none of the previous people had said. And it is what Jim said to me that instantly got my attention. It’s something that I’m confident will get yours as well. I will never forget the words he said.

Jim didn’t realize what he had. He was just programmed to believe the way to market the program was to call enough people up and read a script to them. He also didn’t realize that the most powerful thing he said didn’t appear in his script at all. And if he had not said those words to me, I’m certain I would not have joined.

I made Jim very happy that day. I joined the opportunity. And I remember it just like it was yesterday. I said to Jim… “I’m going to figure out a better way of doing this business.” Jim replied… “Britt you’re green. All you gotta do is just call people up and read this script to them. Some will say no. Some will say yes. And every time somebody says yes, you make money.” I remember Jim’s laugh. It was condescending. He clearly thought he was way above me in intelligence. He was wrong and I was determined to prove it. I had to for survival.

It only took two days for me to realize there was no way I was ever going to spend my life sitting at a desk calling one person after another and reading a really stupid script to them. Sure it worked on me, but the reason it worked on me was because of what Jim said that clearly stood out in my mind. What he said overpowered the script. I knew I could figure out a better system and I did!

At the end of the first week Jim called me up to see how I was doing. When I told him I had been testing a few things he started in with his condescending laugh. But when I told him I had managed to earn over $7,000. for the week, all of the sudden he stopped laughing. Can you imagine what he said next? He wanted to know how I did it. Sure, at first he tried to tell me how well the script worked and that he knew best. However, once he realized I didn’t use the script, well then he was all ears.

I made $7,000. my very first week and I’ve never looked back.

This simple tape made me a lot of money.

The first thing I did was create an audio cassette tape. I would send it to everyone I could. Every time I got a postcard or any other type of business opportunity offer through the mail, I would send a tape to the return address.

Now here’s the interesting part. I recorded the audio using the cheap little microphone that came with the old computer I had back then. I used the free audio recording program that was already installed when I bought the computer. The sound quality was mediocre at best. You could hear popping and hissing from time to time. However, my telephone started to ring.

I started getting calls from people who would start the conversation off by saying… “I listened to the tape and I’m ready to get started!” Those words were music to my ears. I never got tired of hearing them. Especially since I was making money each and every time I heard them.

At first I thought it was a fluke. I mean come on, $7,000. in one week? But then I started to make more. Now I’m not going to tell you that I made $7,000. every week because I didn’t. Some weeks I made more! And some weeks I made less. Some weeks I didn’t make anything.

I kept on doing what I was doing. I tested all sorts of advertising methods. Some worked and some were horrible. But I was always very careful to document what worked and what didn’t. I soon discovered that what I had hold of was something that was about to change my life. If only I could figure out how to roll it out on a much larger scale.

For the next several months I continued to work the program. And as my excitement grew, so did my confidence. Now I was motivated but I still had massive debt. I had gone through a divorce and was stuck with tens of thousands in credit card debt. The interest charges were eating me alive every month. It was brutal. I felt as if I would never get it paid off. We’ve all been there. It’s not a fun place to be.

I was tempted many times to file for bankruptcy. But there was something inside of me that wouldn’t let me do it. I couldn’t live with myself unless I beat this debt monster and got it off my back once and for all. The voice in my head said don’t give up. You can do it. And I listened to that inner voice and I believed in myself.

It was at times almost unbearable. Perhaps you can relate to where I was back then. I was really in dire straights. However eventually I was able to dig myself out of debt and for once in my life I actually had money left over after all the bills were paid for the month! It wasn’t much but it was something and it motivated me to keep going.

I had a few setbacks. My vehicle broke down and I had no choice but to pay to fix it, otherwise I couldn’t work my full time job. And I needed every penny I could get my hands on. I was so close by this time that I could taste victory and I loved it!

My credit was trashed so borrowing money was out of the question. I had to much pride to ask my family and friends for money since I was earning enough that I should be able to manage normal expenses. My problem was I didn’t have normal expenses. I had major debt and it just got worse month after month. It seemed like I would never get out of debt but I managed to pull it off.

Things were really starting to take off for me. I would work my cases during the day and if there was extra work at night and on the weekend, or if there were any cases that required out of town travel, the boss knew I was ready to go. I had made it clear that I was hungry for work and would never turn anything down. This proved to be a double edged sword because it left me little time for much of a personal life.

I didn’t have much to offer anyone at that time anyway so I just focused on pulling my life together and dreamed of settling down one day. So I kept working both my job and my marketing stuff. The orders kept coming in. My usual routine had me swinging by the mail center in the evenings to pick up my orders for the day. I would then go home and work sometimes late in to the night processing them and getting them ready to mail out the next day. I couldn’t afford to get refund requests due to people being impatient or otherwise not getting their order in a timely fashion. There were many times that I literally got only a couple hours sleep if that before I had to be back up and on surveillance very early.

Fortunately if I had a case where the person I was watching didn’t leave their house, it gave me time to sit in the back of a surveillance van and work on processing any orders I didn’t have time to do. That way I could try to get in to the mail center and get them mailed off before they closed. This soon got the better of me and I had to make a choice. I had to pick one or the other. I could no longer do both.

I simply couldn’t burn the candle at both ends. I was forced to make a life changing decision – I made the right choice.

It was a tough choice. My friends and family thought I had completely lost my mind when I told them of my plans to walk away from the investigative field to pursue online marketing full time. But I knew something they didn’t.

I was now consistently earning as much every week marketing as I was from my full time job. There were some weeks when I earned more in a single day than I did for the entire week from the job. And when this started to happen, I knew it was time.

It can be a real scary thing to make this kind of decision. However, you must sometimes take a risk in order to enjoy the reward. And besides, I knew I had a skill I could always fall back on if things didn’t work out.

I’m not going to bore you any more with my struggles and sacrifice. We’ve all got a war story.
